Historic Mansion
The mansion boasts some fascinating history. Built in 1867 by native son Redfield Proctor, it was called at that time "The Barracks". Proctor's spheres of Politics and (the marble) Industry were eclipsed by the literary, banking and railroad ties of the Clement family. Artistic themes flourished with comic book writers visiting in the early 1970's. The property became the Proctor-Clement House when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.Follow the trail of history.

My husband, daughter, and I stayed there one night before we dropped our daughter off at camp & then my husband and I stayed there another 2 nights. It is a lovely bed and breakfast in a beautiful historic home. Sallie is lovely, interesting, and personable. She was always willing to help with suggestions for interesting and beautiful places to go and told us about the history of the property and Rutland. She prepared us fabulous breakfasts and made sure to accommodate our daughter’s lactose intolerance the night she was with us. Every day she left cookies, tea, and coffee in the library.
We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone. It was very relaxing and helped to make our trip pleasant and memorable.

“I don’t have any hesitation to stay at the Antique Mansion B&B when in the Rutland area. We picked this off of Trip Advisor and had a wonderful long weekend celebrating my birthday. The house is beautifully restored with all of the flavor of an old Vermont mansion. The first thing that strikes you is the long elegant staircase leading to the charming rooms. We loved the period decor of the rooms and the whole house for that matter.
Sallie and Larry are extremely hospitable and make you feel immediately at home and even like an old friend.
No complaints just great memories. ”
